What the Funnel Check looks at
You enter a domain. The check fetches your sitemap, gives every URL a funnel stage and puts the split next to the ratio that fits your type of site. No crawl, no queue: the result is there in a few seconds.
01
Split across top, middle and bottom
Every URL in your sitemap gets a stage: top (articles, guides, explainers), middle (comparisons, alternatives, case studies, reviews) or bottom (pricing, demo, contact, product and service pages). Pages with no funnel role, such as about and legal, are counted separately.
02
The stage that is costing you deals
The check points at the stage that is missing or too thin. For most sites that is the middle: there is content that brings visitors in and there are pages that sell, but nothing that convinces the doubter.
03
Balance score per site type
An online shop has a different ideal ratio than a service business or a software company. The check guesses the type from your URLs and scores 0 to 100 for how far your split sits from that ratio.
04
Five titles to write first
For the weakest stage you get five concrete title ideas, filled in with your brand name and the topics already on your site. Not generic tips, but pages you can schedule tomorrow.
05
Sitemap read, site not crawled
We read robots.txt and your sitemap(s) up to 500 URLs and classify on URL patterns in English and Dutch. Only for URLs that give nothing away do we fetch the page (at most twenty) and look at the title, H1 and schema markup.
Why it matters · the short version
Traffic is not the same as a funnel
People decide before they contact you.
By the time someone lands on your pricing page, the decision has usually been made. It happens earlier: while comparing options, reading experiences and checking whether your approach fits their situation. Sites with only articles and sales pages hand that moment to someone else — often a competitor who did write a comparison.
That is why the middle stage is the one most often missing and the one that pays off most. A comparison, an honest 'X or Y' page, a customer case with numbers or a page about alternatives draws fewer visitors than a blog post, but whoever arrives is almost ready to choose.
The split matters for AI answers too. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity which provider fits their situation, those engines cite pages that put options side by side explicitly. Without middle-stage content you are not in that answer, however well your articles rank.
Methodology · what is what
What we decide, measure and estimate
Every number in the result belongs to one of these three. The report itself says which, per item, so you know what to lean on.
Assessed by our decision model
A judgement with a probability behind it: certain, likely or uncertain. Not a fact, but traceable — the same input gives the same judgement, and the certainty is always shown.
The funnel stage and intent of pages no URL or page pattern could place — applied only when the model is certain enough.
Measured
What we literally fetched or counted: HTTP status, HTML, robots.txt, sitemaps, feeds and search results. If it is not there, we say so.
Your sitemaps, the URLs found and, for ambiguous pages, the title, H1 and schema markup of the fetched pages.
Estimated
Models and rules of thumb: search volumes, click rates, expected return. Good enough to prioritise with, not to budget on.
The ideal split per site type and the balance score that follows from it: a rule of thumb, not a standard.
Simulated. When no decision model, provider or cluster is available — or the daily ceiling for the free tools is reached — the tool keeps running on deterministic example data. That is labelled on every item it touches.
