What the feed check looks at

Every product in your feed runs through the same rules Google Merchant Center applies. Per rule you see how many products are affected, which ones, and what to change.

  1. 01

    Rejected products

Missing id, title, description, link, image, availability or price, and Google drops the product. Invalid values count as rejections too — a price of 0, 'available' as availability, a GTIN with a failing check digit. You see the reason per product.

  2. 02

    Titles that undersell

Shorter than 20 characters, longer than 150, entirely in capitals, carrying promotional text like 'sale' or 'free shipping', or the same title on several separate products. The title is the strongest matching signal you have.

  3. 03

    Thin or polluted descriptions

Under 100 characters, HTML tags in the text, or a description that simply repeats the title. Google matches on the description too; an empty or polluted one costs impressions.

  4. 04

    Missing identifiers and category

No brand, no GTIN or MPN (and no identifier_exists=no), no google_product_category. Without identifiers Google cannot tie the product to its catalogue and shows it less often.

  5. 05

    Price, availability and URLs

Commas in prices, currency symbols instead of ISO codes, sale prices above the price, preorders without a date, images over http and links with spaces. Small format errors with large consequences.

Why it matters · the short version

Why feed quality decides your visibility

Free listings run on the same data as your ads.

Your product feed does not only power Shopping ads. The same data decides whether your products appear in the free listings on the Shopping tab, in Google Images, in the product panels in regular search results and, increasingly, in AI answers that recommend products. Whatever is missing in the feed is missing everywhere.

Google rejects hard: one required field empty and the product no longer exists. But the biggest damage sits in what is not rejected — titles that don't say what the product is, descriptions that repeat the title, no GTIN. Those products are listed, but shown for the wrong queries or not at all. You won't see that in Merchant Center, because there is no error.

The score of this check weighs both: a rejected product counts 0, a clean product 1, a product with warnings between 0.5 and 0.85. Ninety clean products out of a hundred give you roughly 90. One number tells you whether your feed is a problem; the issue list tells you where to start.

Methodology · what is what

What we decide, measure and estimate

Every number in the result belongs to one of these three. The report itself says which, per item, so you know what to lean on.

Assessed by our decision model

A judgement with a probability behind it: certain, likely or uncertain. Not a fact, but traceable — the same input gives the same judgement, and the certainty is always shown.

Nothing: a feed field is missing, correct or incorrect.

Measured

What we literally fetched or counted: HTTP status, HTML, robots.txt, sitemaps, feeds and search results. If it is not there, we say so.

The fetched feed: format, number of products, required and recommended fields, values and errors per product.

Estimated

Models and rules of thumb: search volumes, click rates, expected return. Good enough to prioritise with, not to budget on.

How heavily a gap weighs, and which share of your catalogue it touches.

Simulated. When no decision model, provider or cluster is available — or the daily ceiling for the free tools is reached — the tool keeps running on deterministic example data. That is labelled on every item it touches.

Questions about Shopping Feed Tester

Yes, completely. No account, no payment and — unlike some of our other tools — no email address either: you see the full result straight away, including every rejected product and its fix (up to 100 per list). We build the tools to show what Traze sees, not to collect addresses.

From check to system

Your feed is one surface. Traze does the rest.

The Feed Tester shows what Google is missing in your product data. Traze builds the content around it: category pages, buying guides and product descriptions that rank in Google and get named in AI answers, published into your CMS and optimised continuously — with you in the loop.

One check is a snapshot

Traze is the loop.

Traze researches, writes, publishes and optimises the content that gets you found in Google and in AI answers — automatically, with you in the loop. See pricing or book a demo.
