International SEO services

Opening a second country is rarely a matter of copying your site and converting the prices. Search demand differs per market, Google judges every country version separately and AI assistants give different recommendations in Germany than in Belgium. Underestimate that and you end up with six country versions cannibalising each other and none that really ranks.

Traze treats international SEO as one system with local execution. It works out the demand per country, picks the structure that fits your organisation, keeps hreflang and canonicals clean and writes pages that answer the local question in every market. Everything is published into your CMS, measured per country and per engine, and adjusted where a market falls behind.

Focus · International SEO

What international SEO has to get right

International growth usually fails on structure and priority, not on content. These are the points Traze focuses on for brands in several countries.

  • 01

    The right market first

Not every country deserves the same investment. We measure search demand, competition and AI visibility per market and decide the order in which you roll out.

  • 02

    A domain structure that fits

ccTLD, subfolder or subdomain: each choice affects authority, management and cost. We choose based on your organisation, not a rule of thumb.

  • 03

    Hreflang and canonicals without errors

Country versions that reference each other, an x-default that is correct and canonicals that do not accidentally drop a whole market from the index.

  • 04

Local search demand, not translated keywords

What the Dutch call 'sneakers' a Brit searches as 'trainers'. We research demand per country and write to it, even within the same language.

  • 05

    Local signals that build trust

Currency, shipping information, addresses, local sources and reviews per country, so Google and AI engines tie the page to the right market.

  • 06

    AI answers per country

ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity cite different sources per market. We measure where you are mentioned and build the pages that close the gap.

Approach

How Traze approaches international SEO

We start with a map of demand per country: which keywords and AI questions exist, how strong the competition is and where you are already visible. From that follows a rollout order with a goal per market, because a market where you already sell needs something different from a market you still have to open. Read how the content strategy maps search demand per market.

Then we lay the technical foundation: the domain structure, hreflang annotations for every language-country combination, canonicals, sitemaps per market and a country choice that helps visitors without redirecting crawlers. We check that foundation continuously, because one wrong canonical in a template can make an entire country version disappear. See what technical optimization covers on international sites.

From there the loop runs per market: Traze writes pages from the brand profile and the local demand, publishes them into the right country version of your CMS, tracks rankings and AI citations per country and per engine, and reinforces the markets that fall behind. You approve the strategy per market; the system does the execution. See the methodology behind the loop.

Deep dive

The building blocks of international SEO

International SEO stacks technical, strategic and editorial choices on top of each other. These six parts decide whether a rollout into new countries grows or stalls.

ccTLD, subfolder or subdomain: choose deliberately

A country domain such as .de sends the strongest local signal, but every domain builds its own authority and needs its own management. Subfolders such as /de/ share the authority of your main domain and are the easiest to scale, but require hreflang to be right. Subdomains sit in between and are largely treated by Google as separate sites.

No structure always wins. We choose based on your current domains, how many markets you want to serve, whether local entities exist and how your CMS supports multiple countries. A brand with one store on Shopify Markets makes a different choice from an organisation with a subsidiary per country. Read how Traze handles Shopify Markets and country versions.

Hreflang and canonicals that actually work

Hreflang tells Google which version of a page belongs to which language and country. It goes wrong surprisingly often: annotations that are not reciprocal, a missing x-default, language codes that do not exist or canonicals pointing from the German page to the Dutch version. Each of those errors costs a market visibility without anyone noticing. See how technical optimization catches hreflang errors.

Traze generates hreflang and canonicals from the registration of your country versions, not by hand per page, and checks them on every publish. On existing sites we start with an audit of the whole hreflang cluster and fix structural errors in the template rather than page by page. Read more about multilingual SEO when your site combines several languages.

Search demand differs per country, even within one language

English in the United Kingdom is not the English of the United States, and Dutch in Flanders searches differently from Dutch in the Netherlands. Product names, sizes, seasons, regulation and competitors differ. A literally translated page answers a question nobody in that country asks. See how the content strategy is built per market.

So we run separate keyword and AI-question research per market and write per country from the local demand. Where volumes are small we cluster smartly, so you do not build a hundred pages for a market with ten searches a month. Cluster Share shows you per country how much of the demand in your category already goes to you. Measure your share per country for free with Cluster Share.

Programmatic rollout across country × category

With ten countries and two hundred categories you cannot work page by page. Traze builds the country × category matrix programmatically: one page per combination with local search terms, prices, shipping information and internal links to the right country version of products and guides. Read how programmatic SEO builds a country × category matrix.

Quality stays in charge: every variant gets unique, local content and has to reach a minimum citability score before it goes live. That prevents Google from seeing hundreds of near-identical country pages as duplicates and picking one at random. See our approach to e-commerce SEO across several markets.

Local authority and AI answers per market

Google and AI engines tie a page to a market on more than language: currency, address, phone number, local sources, references from local sites and reviews from that country. Without those signals Google treats your German page as a Dutch site with German text, and ChatGPT in Germany prefers to name a local competitor.

We build that local layer with you: localised business data and schema per country, content that references local sources and pages that answer the questions AI assistants get in that country. The dashboard shows per country and per engine whether you are mentioned. See the example case of a sneaker resale platform in four countries.

Rollout order and measuring per market

Opening everything at once splits your budget and your attention. We start with the market where demand is largest and competition is achievable, build the structure and the first clusters there, and use what we learn for the next market. Every market has its own goal, its own content calendar and its own reporting. See which plans support several markets.

For organisations with a team per country we combine that with the governance from our enterprise offering: one strategy, approval per market and a shared log. Head office knows what happens in every country without having to read every page itself. Read how enterprise SEO handles governance across markets.

Why Traze

Why international brands choose Traze

International SEO demands technical precision and local knowledge at the same time, every month, for every market. That is exactly the work you are better off leaving to a system, with people reviewing the exceptions.

  • Search and AI-question research per country, not one keyword list run through a translation engine.
  • Hreflang, canonicals and sitemaps per market, generated automatically and checked on every publish.
  • Publishing into the right country version of Shopify, WordPress, Storyblok or your own stack, including local metadata and schema.
  • AI citations and rankings per country and per engine in one dashboard, so you see which market is growing and which needs attention.
  • Rollout in the order that pays off most, with its own goal and calendar per market.

Who it is for

Who international SEO from Traze is for

  • Online stores already selling in several countries but getting hardly any organic traffic outside the home market.
  • Brands opening a new country that want the structure right from day one.
  • Organisations whose country versions cannibalise each other or where hreflang has never quite worked.
  • Companies with a marketing team in one country that is responsible for visibility in five.
  • B2B organisations that want to be found in several European markets, in Google and in AI answers.

Frequently asked questions about International SEO

Direct answers, including what it costs.

You choose a plan based on pages per month: Start (€590, 10 pages), Growth (€990, 20 pages) or Scale (€1,690, 40 pages) on an annual subscription, with a rolling monthly option at a slightly higher rate. For several countries Scale is usually the starting point, because it includes location pages, multilingual variants and share-of-voice reporting per AI engine. If you want more than three or four markets at once or run a domain per country, we put together a custom Enterprise proposal.
