What the Keyword Gap Finder shows

You enter your domain. The tool reads your homepage, picks the topic you want to be found for, builds the keyword cluster around it and checks who sits on page 1 per keyword. Not a list of everything — the gaps that matter, with what was measured and what was estimated stated per number.

  1. 01

Your topic, from your own site

Title, H1 and meta description supply the candidates; the decision model picks which one best describes what a customer would search for. You see which candidate won and how sure that was.

  2. 02

    Missed keywords

Keywords where a competitor is on page 1 and you are not — or where they sit above you. That is the core of the gap: demand that exists, with the answer currently belonging to someone else.

  3. 03

What a top-3 position would be worth

Per gap: the estimated monthly volume and the difference between your traffic today and at position 3, using the same click model as Cluster Share. An estimate to prioritise with, not a promise.

  4. 04

Intent and funnel stage per gap

Every gap gets an intent (informational, comparison, purchase, navigational) and a funnel stage from our decision model, with its certainty — not inferred from the shape of the words.

  5. 05

    Competitors picked automatically

No need to name competitors. The domains that most often outrank you in this cluster come straight out of the search results — often not the companies you would list yourself.

Why it matters · the short version

Why a gap analysis beats a ranking report

Your competitor has already done the research for you.

Every page a competitor ranks for is proven demand: someone searches for it, Google rates the answer good enough and it brings that site traffic. A gap analysis lines up those proven questions and subtracts the ones you already answer. What remains is not guesswork but a content plan with demand behind it.

Most ranking reports look at keywords you have already chosen. That keeps the biggest gaps invisible: topics you never thought of because you don't track them. Looking from the competitor's side shows you the market as it is, not as you estimated it.

The gap widens as search shifts to AI answers. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity cite the pages that answer a question most clearly, and those are almost always pages that already rank in Google. Close the keyword gap and you close the AI gap with it.

Methodology · what is what

What we decide, measure and estimate

Every number in the result belongs to one of these three. The report itself says which, per item, so you know what to lean on.

Assessed by our decision model

A judgement with a probability behind it: certain, likely or uncertain. Not a fact, but traceable — the same input gives the same judgement, and the certainty is always shown.

Which topic your site serves, and per gap the intent, the funnel stage and whether the keyword belongs to your cluster.

Measured

What we literally fetched or counted: HTTP status, HTML, robots.txt, sitemaps, feeds and search results. If it is not there, we say so.

Your homepage (title, H1, description) and the positions in the fetched search results, yours and those of the domains above you.

Estimated

Models and rules of thumb: search volumes, click rates, expected return. Good enough to prioritise with, not to budget on.

Search volumes, the cluster and what a top-3 position would be worth.

Simulated. When no decision model, provider or cluster is available — or the daily ceiling for the free tools is reached — the tool keeps running on deterministic example data. That is labelled on every item it touches.

Questions about Keyword Gap Finder

From your homepage. Title, H1 and meta description supply candidates; our decision model picks the topic a customer would search for, with its certainty. Without a decision model it falls back to the first candidate and says so.
